Windows 7 by default has each user log in with their username and password. If you are the only user on a computer, or if you are setting up a home media center pc, you may want to skip the login process and boot straight to the desktop. Setting Windows 7 to auto-login will do the trick.
Here’s how to do it:
- Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to launch the “Run” dialog box.
- Type in control userpasswords2
- Click “OK“. The User Accounts window will then open.

- Uncheck the option “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer”
- Click “Apply”.

- Now enter the current password and confirm it.
- Then click “OK“.

The next time you start you computer, you will no longer be prompted to enter your password upon login.
